Forty candidates will vie for seats on city council this fall — the highest number in more than a decade.
Nominations for the Oct. 26 civic election closed Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-six people are running for council positions in 10 wards, while four — including an 11th-hour addition — are seeking the mayor’s chair.
All of the seven incumbent candidates face at least one opponent.
“It’s fantastic. It’s absolutely fantastic that we live in a city where people are stepping forward because they believe that they have a role to play in the oversight of this city and are excited about our future,” returning officer Catherine Folkersen said. “As a citizen, I’m excited.”
